As a former Montessori teacher, I've had the privilege of exploring a wide array of books with children. Through stories, little readers can not only discover new worlds but also start understanding themselves and their surroundings. Here, I’m thrilled to share 10 books that I found both engaging and nurturing for young minds. In addition, I'll offer some Montessori-based book selection advice.

How to Pick the Best Baby Books

Your child's age and interests will determine which book is best for them. While infants may like to look at pictures while you read aloud to them, focusing on the visuals. However, older kids prefer lengthier, more intricate stories.

What Type of Books are Best for Babies

Did you know that a baby’s sense of touch develops early on? From the first few months, little hands are eager to explore, grasp, and feel. This means that during those early stages, textured, soft, and safe-to-hold toys and books are especially appealing to babies. What does this mean for books?

For your little one, start with books featuring bright, colorful images or simple black-and-white contrasts. As they grow, their interest will expand to interactive books with diverse visuals and textures to explore!

Selecting Books on Montessori

Before they can think abstractly, children must have concrete experiences, according to Montessori. Fantasy literature should therefore be avoided until your child is older and able to tell the difference between fact and fiction.

Realistic subjects are typically the emphasis of Montessori toddler and baby books, which also frequently feature realistic artwork or photographs.

10 Must-Read Books for Babies
